FSSC Recession Strategy

Supporting the industry through the downturn

Supporting our sector through the economic downturn is a key priority for the Financial Services Skills Council.

We are currently developing strategies for how we can work with the industry, in a national and regional context, to help firms through the recession.

In the short to medium term, times are likely to be tough and the financial services industry is expected to face some further challenges. Whilst the accountancy and finance sectors may have fared reasonably well thus far, they too are likely to face some decline. However we are confident these sector(s) will positively address these challenges, remaining strong industries that continue to significantly contribute to our national GDP.

Ongoing investment in skills and training can help best weather the downturn, helping to adapt more quickly and effectively to change whilst providing increased flexibility for the demands of the upturn once the recession has passed.

We are working hard to attract government funding to continue to build skills and support firms' own training through this difficult period. We are also actively discussing how we can harness the support of our national and regional partners.
